The Saudi Arabia e-invoice implementation consists of two phases: the generating phase, which is required as of December 4, 2021, and the integration phase, which will be required as of January 1, 2023.
Standard Tax Invoices (B2B) and Simplified Tax Invoices (B2C) are two forms of invoices that are included in the integration of the Saudi Arabian invoice system. However, the B2B and B2C invoice signature procedures are different:
- B2B invoices are signed by the ZATCA Portal before they are delivered to the buyer, therefore serving as an illustration of the clearance model
- B2C invoices are an example of a reporting mechanism and are delivered to ZATCA within 24 hours after being signed by taxpayers
Electronic invoices sent or received by public sector organizations must be archived, and they must be kept for a minimum of six years on local or cloud servers.
Effective date: 1 January 2023
